Tonnette Porter Carpenter, 61, of Clovis, NM entered into God’s eternal glory on December 4, 2017 in Lubbock, TX surrounded by her loving family.
Tonnette was born to Jack and Dollie Porter on June 25, 1956 in Clovis, NM. She graduated from Clovis High School in 1974. At nineteen, Tonnette bought Bobby’s Poodle Dor. She married Doyle Carpenter on April 19, 1979. She ran a successful dog grooming business until she and Doyle were blessed with their children, Zandi Zane, followed soon after Jack Otis. After her children were old enough, she went back to school and received her Bachelors of Science in Special Education. She was an exceptional teacher and her students blossomed under her care and love. Tonnette retuned to dog grooming while teaching in 2006, when she opened Waggin’ Tails, and she continued grooming until her Rheumatoid Arthritis caused her to retire from both.
Tonnette was a Sunday school teacher, a Youth Director, and taught VBS at Central Christian Church. She coached USSSA softball where her daughter participated and her 1999 team won a state championship. She enjoyed watching both of her children show their livestock animals at fairs. When she became a grandmother, she was proudest of being Nana and wanted to be with her “Grandbabies” as often as she could, from having sleepovers every weekend, to being at every school function and sporting event. Tonnette was a kind, generous soul who gave her entire heart and energy to her parents, her children, her grandchildren, and her husband, Doyle. She will be greatly missed by all.
Preceding her death are her grandad R.C. Porter; grandma Thelma Porter; and mother Dollie Porter. She is survived by her husband, Doyle; daughter, Zandi (Brandon) Jacobs; son, Jack Carpenter; grandchildren, Toby, Caden, Ryleigh, Logan, and Colten Jacobs; father, Jack Porter; and grand dog, Maya, all of Clovis.
Steed Todd Funeral Home will be hosting visitation Thursday, December 7th, and Friday, December 8th, from 9:00am to 8:00pm. The family of Tonnette will be present on Friday, from 5:00 to 7:00pm to greet visitors. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 9, 2017, 11:00am, at Hillside Christian Church, 14th and Mitchell, with Wayne Boydstun and Kevin Tuttle, officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Mission Garden of Memories Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Shayne Skarda, Ryan Skarda, Cassidy Carpenter, Rodney Porter, Gary Abernathy, and Paul Lough. Honorary bearers are Toby Jacobs, Caden Jacobs, Ryleigh Jacobs, Logan Jacobs, Colten Jacobs, and Maya.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Portales Baptist Children’s Home or to Portales Christian Children’s Home.

Please accept my belated condolence. While words fail to capture the pain you are experiencing, continue to look forward to the time when Tonnette will be raised from the dead and reunited with you, her family. Jesus when on earth demonstrated his ability to perform miracles such as this. Read Luke 7:11-15 as an example of many. Keep imagining yourself hugging and kissing Tonnette again at a time when death will be no more. (Revelation 21:4) Before you know it, your imagination will be real. (Joshua 23:14; Titus 1:2) For more information, type the following link into your browser and listen or read the article along with your copy of the Bible: tinyurl.com/MEZWV23

I have so many, many wonderful memories of Tonnette. I met her when we were in second grade @ James Bickley (not the same classroom). She was so fun then & throughout the years. When she got her red Thunderbird for her 16th birthday we would go to the carwash EVERY Saturday & hand wash it! Ha! What a special lady! My life has been blessed & enriched to have known her.
May God bless all her family & loved ones & know what a rich legacy she left you all.

One of my childhood heroes is gone. Thank you, Tonnette, for loving me and my family so well. Thank you for the lessons you taught me and the wonderful memories I get to keep. I will always remember you smiling and laughing. My heart aches for you Doyle, Zandi, Jack, Jack Sr., and all the grandkids for the hole in your lives. May Christ plant something beautiful there that will grow and flourish by the love that He poured into Tonnette’s life that we enjoyed.

Doyle, Zandi, & Jack: My heart breaks with y'all. I can hear Tonnette's voice calling my name, her perfect laugh that always made me smile, and I'm right back under the trees at the house on a lazy summer afternoon, listening to her advice about life. Her heart was so wide open for everyone - she loved big and hard and well. My life is better for having known her. Y'all are in my heart and prayers. We love you.
