Willie Barela, Sr., 89, of Ft. Sumner, NM went to be with the Lord on March 7, 2018 in Clovis, NM. He was born on September 30, 1928 to Espiridon and Carolina Barela in Ft. Sumner.

Willie was a hardworking man. He worked for the New Mexico State Highway Department for 32 years. Willie loved being outdoors and was always doing yardwork and cutting weeds. When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed watching old western shows. Willie had an expectation of living in paradise here on earth. Most of all he loved Jehovah.

Willie is preceded in death by his wife, Inez Barela; his parents, Espiridon and Carolina Barela; grandson, Michael Madrid; and numerous brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his son, Felix (Perfie) Barela of Ft. Sumner; daughter, Angie Barela of Las Cruces; son, Willie (Fran) Barela, Jr. of Albuquerque; daughter, Patsy (John) Nelson of Las Cruces; brother, Manuel (Rosa) Barela of Clovis; sisters, Frances Pena of Portales and Ramona Sena of Ft. Sumner; grandchildren, Johnny Barela, Daniela (Nick) Zamora, Felicia (Steven) Silva, Fernando Barela, and Leticia Appel; great-grandchildren, Karrisa Zamora and Alyssa Appel. He will be dearly missed by all.

Viewing will be held on Monday, March 12, 2018, 9:00am to 8:00pm at Steed Todd Funeral Home in Clovis. Cremation will take place and burial will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2018, 11:00am, in the Fort Sumner Cemetery in Ft. Sumner, New Mexico.
