Adelaide Huff, age 84 of Clovis, passed away on September 13, 2026 in Lubbock, Texas.
Adelaide was born in Portland, Oregon in 1941 to Giuseppe and Mary Ponta. She attended high school in Sandy, Oregon and later graduated from the University of Portland, where she earned a Master's Degree in Education.
On March 18, 1971 Adelaide married Cecil Hiff in Portland, Oregon. During Cecil's career in the United States Air Force, they made their homes in Utah, California, Alaska and New Mexico. Adelaide devoted her life to her family, her faith, education, and service to others. She and her husband moved to Clovis in 1989 where she has been a resident for 37 years.
A gifted and dedicated educator, Adelaide taught at the junior high and high school levels. She also taught English as a Second Language to adult students. She paused her teaching career for a time in order to stay home and care for her children, a role she cherished deeply.
Adelaide was a woman of strong faith and generous service. She was a devoted member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Clovis and was also involved at Cannon Air Force Chapel and Sacred Heart Parish. For more than 20 years, she gave her time to Girl Scouts and to religious education, sharing her faith and encouraging countless young people. She was honored as the Knights of Columbus Woman of the Year and received the Saint Francis Award from the Archdiocese of Santa Fe in recognition of her service and dedication to Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish. She also generously volunteered with Compassus Hospice.
Adelaide loved her husband, her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family and pets. She enjoyed the outdoors, especially camping and fishing, and will be remembered for her love, faithfulness, service and care for those around her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Cecil Huff, who passed in 2001.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Maria Bezner, Catrina Lucero and Theresa Huff; her brother, Carlo Ponta; her sister, Erlinda Fazio and her husband Richard; as well as multiple grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2026 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Steed Todd Funeral Home Chapel.
The Rosary will be prayed on Friday, September 18, 2026 at 12:30 PM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, led by Rosa Marez. The Funeral Mass will follow at 1:00 PM, with burial immediately afterward at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens. A reception will be held in the Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish Hall following the burial.
Pallbearers will be Chad Starnes, Kaleb Bezner, Chandler Bezner and Augustine Martinez. Michael Gallegos, William Salazar and Willie Lucero will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Steed Todd Funeral Home.
