With profound sadness, we announce the tragic passing of Christopher Ray Robertson, age 38, of Amarillo, Texas, on May 4, 2026.
Chris was born on September 13, 1987, in Portales, New Mexico. Raised in Clovis, New Mexico, he graduated from Clovis High School in 2007.
Chris was known for his strong work ethic, and his early jobs took him to Santa Fe and Albuquerque. In the mountains of central New Mexico he discovered a passion for rock and wall climbing. The sport's demands for partnership, trust, careful risk management, route finding, strength, and flexibility made it a perfect fit for him.
In 2017, Chris followed his dream of opening the Clovis Rock Gym, a venture into which he poured his heart and soul. He loved sharing his passion for climbing with his hometown community and partnered with many local businesses along the way. After the gym closed in 2022, Chris continued his career with Lowe's Home Improvement, serving in management positions in both Clovis and Amarillo.
Chris was an entrepreneur, a risk-taker, and someone who loved making people smile - sometimes while wearing a costume. He enjoyed spending time with friends, working out at the gym, and dancing the night away. He was a leader, a mentor, and held a safe space for so many people. He was an incredible dog dad, and a devoted son and brother.
The only thing bigger than Chris's biceps was his heart, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Chris is survived by his parents, Wes and Linda Robertson; his sister, Michelle Robertson; his uncle, Larry Seamer (Margaret); cousins Bryan Seamer (Rebecca) and George Seamer (Elena); second cousins Henry and Quinn; and his beloved dog, Nismo.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Joel and Bette Steiner and Harold and Mary Robertson; his aunt, Kathleen Seamer; and his beloved dog, Saphira.
A Celebration of Life for Chris will be held on Saturday, June 6, in the courtyard of the Red Door on Main in Clovis, New Mexico at 3:00 pm. Outdoor seating may be limited, please bring a chair if you like. We plan to honor him in a way he would truly enjoy - so bring your dancing boots and please stay a while after the formal celebration.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Aggie Wranglers or the American Mountain Guides Association to help inspire and support future generations of country swing dancers and climbers.
