Memorial services for Dovie Darlene Davis, 81, of Clovis, are scheduled for Friday, November 10th at 11:00 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Clovis, NM, under the direction of Steed Todd Funeral Home, Clovis, NM.
Darlene passed away Thursday, October 26th, at the Beehive House assisted living where she had resided for the last three years. She was born on July 16th, 1942, to Robbie Lee Stroup and Audrey Pauline Beaman in Portales, NM. She grew up and attended school in Dora, NM. At the age of seventeen, she married Marland (Pete) Eugene Davis, and they raised their five children in Clovis. While there, she worked as the secretary for their family business, D&D Electric, until 1981 when they moved to a ranch in Elida, NM. Darlene spent many happy years raising calves and riding horses on the ranch. In her later years, Darlene always looked forward to the summers when her grandkids would come and spend time. For many years, she was actively involved with the New Mexico Cow Belles, an organization promoting New Mexico beef. She thoroughly enjoyed participating in local events, rodeos, and parades for this organization. She was actively involved in the Elida Senior Citizen Center and ran their commodities program feeding those in need for many years. She was raised in the Church of Christ and joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in about 1970 and served many years in the Relief Society among many other callings. She was a gifted southwest artist and loved to share this talent with her grandchildren. Family was the focal point of most of her life and she spent many happy hours surrounded by both immediate and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Adrain and Donnie Stroup. Survivors include four sons, Steve Davis and wife Lisa of Clovis, Calvin Davis and wife Renee of Clovis, Bruce Davis and wife Nancy of Lufkin TX, Randy Davis and wife Jacqueline Davis of Mesa, AZ; one daughter, Cristie Carter and husband Scott of Eagle ID; twenty grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.
