Edmund Lewis, “Ed,” Allen, aged 81, of Clovis, NM, passed away January 25, 2022. He was born November 20, 1940, in Omaha, Nebraska.
At the age of 17, Ed joined the United States Marine Corp. As an enlisted Marine, he graduated fluent in Russian from the Army Language School in Monterey, California, in 1960. Ed would spend his remaining enlistment as military intelligence during the Cold War, receiving an honorable discharge in 1964. After his discharge, Ed then decided to become a Family Physician. He received his undergraduate degree in Economics from the University of Missouri in Kansas City and his degree in medicine from the University of Arkansas in Little Rock in 1973. He settled in Texas, first having a private practice in Dalhart, TX. Ed then moved to Abilene, TX in 1986, becoming employed by the State of Texas, working for the Abilene State School until his retirement in 2004.
Ed is beloved by his daughter, Ellie, who knows she had the best dad in the world. He was brilliant in all subject matters with a deep love of learning and travel. Ed was humble and always helped others in need. He had a wonderful sense of humor, and even though he had a difficult life as a child and young adult, he never stopped smiling and laughing. He always told his daughter to not “take life too seriously.”
He is survived by his very proud daughter, Ellie Benedictus, and two grandsons, K.J. and Sebastian.
Dear friends, Micheal and Brenda LeTarte of Marshall, TX, Brenda Romero of Clovis, NM, and special friend, Andrea of Clovis, NM. He is preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Rosalind and Fred Murphy and younger sister, Margaret Elaine Allen, all of Omaha, Nebraska.
Ellie would like to give special thanks to Interim Hospice for the loving care they provided Ed, in particular, Dr. Donaldson, Makayla Gomez-RN, and Wayne Moore-Chaplain. She would also like to thank several of the staff at Wheatfields Assisted Living and Memory Care including, Gabby Johnson-RN, Medication Aides: Meghan Varney, Meghan Davenport, and Lilly, and Activities Director, Natalie, for being there to hug Ed when Ellie could not.
