Escolastica Hernandez Trujillo, age 92, was born February 10, 1926, in Eagle Pass, TX to Antonio and Manuela (Cardenas) Hernandez. She was called home to enter into GOD's eternal glory on November 8, 2018, in Clovis, NM and was greeted in Heaven by her loving husband, Orlando Trujillo, her parents, sisters and brother.
Escolastica, known as "Mary" to her friends, fostered a lifelong devotion to her family and moreover to GOD. Her parents passed while Mary was very young and was adopted by her aunt/uncle, Natalia and Clemente Cardenas of Eagle Pass, TX.
In 1943, by divine providence, Mary met the love of her life, Orlando Trujillo, while he was stationed in Eagle Pass serving in the U.S. Army and the pair married on April 4, 1943. After Orlando's military service in 1946, they made their first home in Fort Sumner, NM, where Orlando and Mary raised a family of ten children. In 2002, Orlando and Mary retired from farming/ranching and relocated to Clovis, NM to be closer to family. Their marriage blossomed and culminated in 74 years of unconditional love, owing everything to their devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe, something Mary carried with her throughout her life. She loved dancing and especially singing as she did her housework and attended to her children, though her ultimate delight was centered on having her family gather for the holidays. Mary enjoyed attending bingo with her grandchildren and would also enjoy an occasional visit to a casino. Her greatest joy, however, came from time spent with family and her grandchildren; living every one of her 92 years to the fullest before joining Orlando.
She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Fort Sumner, NM and Sacred Heart Church in Clovis, NM. In addition, she was committed to the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary and Fraternal Order of the Eagles.
Mary's life and legacy will continue to be remembered and honored by her children; Janie (Eleuterio) Cortez of Roswell, NM, Mario (Vivian) Trujillo of Clovis, NM, Aurora (Jim) Mares of Roswell, NM, Esther (Robert) Aragon of Roswell, NM, Margaret (Lee) Eggleston of Phoenix, AZ, Moise Trujillo of Roswell, NM, Kay (Robert) De Los Santos of Portales, NM, Matthew Trujillo of Clovis, NM, Debbie (Scott) Alexander of Clovis, NM, and Abbie (Steve) Salguero of Clovis, NM; 22 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren (two on the way); and 29 great-great grandchildren.
She lived life generously, loved unconditionally, and trusted God completely. Her family loved her very much and will always miss her.
Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Orlando Trujillo; biological parents, Antonio and Manuelita Hernandez; adoptive parents, Clemente and Natalia Cardenas; sisters, Eva Hall, Lena Escobar, and Ester Hernandez; and brother, Homero Hernandez.
Serving as Pall Bearers are grandsons, Gerald Gallegos, Larry Gallegos, Orlando Enriquez, Mario Trujillo II, James Mares, Robert "Joseph" Aragon, Jason Martin, Justin Martin and Chris De Los Santos.
Honorary Pall Bearers are son-in-laws, Eleuterio Cortez, Jim Mares, Robert Aragon, Lee Eggleston, Robert De Los Santos, Scott Alexander, Steve Salguero, and all of her grandchildren.
