Genita Lay

Genita Sue Lay, age 67, of Melrose, NM entered into the kingdom of Heaven on January 12, 2019. She was born on February 23, 1951 in Shattuck, OK to the home of William and Veda (Gonser) Foote.

Genita was a retired business teacher from Melrose and Clovis High Schools. She also taught at ENMU, Wayland Baptist University and Clovis Community College. Genita received her Bachelors and Masters degree from Eastern New Mexico University. She was a devoted member of Melrose Baptist Church. She also enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family and especially her grandkids. She will be dearly missed by all.

Preceding her death are her parents, William and Veda Foote; father-in-law, Curtis Lay; mother-in-law, Ora Lay; brother-in-law, Curtis Lay, Jr.; and brother-in-law, Gene Lay.

Genita leaves behind her husband, Johnny Lay of the home; sons, Jared (Brandi) Lay of Lubbock, TX and Jeremiah Lay of Las Cruces, NM; her daughter, Joni (Shawn) Evans of Las Cruces, NM; brother, Billy (Rhonda) Foote of Stillwater, OK; sisters, Frankie (Verle) Sheppard of Laverne, OK and Melva (Vic) Litte of Rosston, OK; and 7 grandchildren, Lee Anne Evans, John Evans, Braxton Lay, Jaxon Lay, Kara Lay, Addilyn Evans, and Jacee Lay.

Funeral services will be on Wednesday, January 16, 2019, 10:00am at the First Baptist Church in Melrose, NM. Burial will follow at the Melrose Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Jared Lay, Jeremiah Lay, Shawn Evans, Todd Pinnell, Dean Bruce, and Billy Foote.

The family request the memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the Melrose Cemetery Fund in Genita's honor.
