Hermond Clark Ragland was born on February 27,1933 to Orpha Mae (Flint) and Herman Lloyd Ragland in Bard, New Mexico. He was raised in San Jon, New Mexico with his two younger sisters Evelyn Laverne "Bunny" and Ellen Mae where they helped their father tend the farm after the tragic passing of their mother in 1941.
Hermond dedicated his life to God, family and farming. In 1951, he married Almyra (Haddock), together they pastored churches in Porter, New Mexico in 1955, Santa Rosa, New Mexico in 1960, and San Jon, New Mexico in 1962. They raised their two children, Cheryl Jenean and Waymond Lynn in San Jon, New Mexico. An industrious and ingenious man, Hermond worked his own farm and helped with many across New Mexico, Kansas, and Colorado. Although he worked long days, often starting hours before the sun rose, family was his greatest pride. Whether it was taking family to the mountains, teaching them how to ski at the lake, or just a game of 42, Hermond brought an inextinguishable light into the worlds of family and friends. Hermond was a man of faith, and loved his family more than words could ever express. Hermond was a dear friend, brother, and like a brother or father to most everyone he met. He was a loving person and would do anything for anyone, and was always there when you needed him.
On July 26, 2003, Hermond married Brenda Kelly at Faith Chapel in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Together, they drove countless miles in a semi-truck seeing the countryside, even all the way to Alaska. They continued their shared calling in the ministry, pastoring churches in Dulce and San Jon, New Mexico. The lives that Hermond touched are without limit, and everyone who knew him will remember his kindness, generosity, and his unique, honest smile.
Hermond passed away peacefully in his home on June 29, 2026.
Hermond is survived by his wife Brenda Ragland, sisters, Evelyn Laverne "Bunny" Knowles, Ellen Mae and A.L. Mitchell. Along with his children, Cheryl Yaws and spouse Clay Yaws, Waymond Ragland and spouse Susan Ragland, Sandra Kelly, Jason Kelly, and Steven and Jen Kelly. His grandchildren, Chris and Sylvia Masters, Rick and Myranda Ragland, Brandon and Cristina Masters, Ronnie and Megan Ragland, and Rodney and Steffani Ragland. His great-grandchildren Austin Masters, Kyndall Ragland Merrill and spouse Payson Merrill, Kirsten Kelly, Brooklyn Ragland Barcinas and spouse Rafael Barcinas, Deakin Ragland, Carter Kelly, Camdyn Ragland, Trace Ragland, Creed Ragland, Noah Masters and numerous beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his mother Orpha Mae Ragland, father Herman Lloyd Ragland, wife Almyra Ragland and his brother-in-law LRoy Knowles.
Funeral services will be on Thursday July 2, 2026 at the Assembly of God starting at 10:00am. Burial will follow the funeral service at San Jon Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Christopher Masters, Rodney Ragland, Brandon Masters, Rick Ragland and Ronnie Ragland.
