Ian Michael Downs Obituary

Ian Michael Downs was welcomed into the arms of his Savior into his eternal rest on June 25, 2026, in El Paso, Texas. Born April 7, 1992, in Clovis, New Mexico, Ian is survived by his parents, Douglas and Mary Downs, of Clovis, and siblings Andrew Martin, of Clovis; Selena Wolfe, of Hope Mills, North Carolina; Blake Downs; Ashley Downs; and Colin Downs, all of Clovis, along with brother-in-law Sean Wolfe; nephews Christopher and Caleb Martin, Isaiah and Jonas Vasquez; and Luke Wolfe; and nieces Genevieve and Hannah Martin and Tessa Wolfe along with numerous aunts and uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert and Joy Downs, Joseph Ramsey, and Clay and Doris Kirby.

Ian grew up in Clovis alongside his twin, Colin, and their siblings. Known for his sharp intellect and curious spirit, Ian developed a love of knowledge and would spend countless hours reading encyclopedias and informational texts. This later developed into a love for public policy and theology, and he would often enjoy political and theological discourse among friends and family. He also became fascinated with finances and economic living and loved creating and tweaking budgets.

Ian attended Zia Elementary, was homeschooled for several years, and graduated from Clovis High School in 2010. He was involved in JROTC, choir, and cross-country running, among many extracurricular activities.

After receiving his auto mechanic vocational certificate from Clovis Community College, Ian worked at several jobs throughout his career, mostly in the trade fields. Ranging from auto mechanic to pipe manufacturing, he had experience in several areas of work, including criminal justice corrections and railroad transport. He was known to be a meticulous worker who cared about precision and effectiveness in what he did.

His love for various languages and cultures, especially Latino and Asian, drove his openness to trying new cuisines and experiences. He would often be found sipping on Yerba Mate or singing musica norteña and Spanish worship songs. The incorporation of Spanish in almost every conversation was his signature style.

Ian loved exploring new places and being in nature. From camping to road trips to urban walks, this provided him fodder for intellectual and philosophical exploration, which he often expressed through his discourses and conversations with those he was traveling with.

Ian was an avid Bible scholar and took his faith to heart. Constantly desiring to learn more about the grace and mercy of his Creator and Savior and His Gospel, made available to all by the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, Ian frequently studied to learn more

about the mysteries of his faith and was always willing to give the reason for the hope within him.

Those wishing to celebrate Ian's life are welcome to attend services at Steed-Todd Funeral Home on July 10 at 10 a.m., followed by a graveside service at Lawn Haven Cemetery and a lunch fellowship at The Potter's House Christian Center on Main Street.

"Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest." -Matthew 11:28 (LSV)
