Ian Ross Massey, 33, of Clovis, New Mexico, passed away on September 25, 2026, in Clovis.
A memorial service celebrating Ian's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday October 3, 2026 at Restoration Baptist Church in Clovis, New Mexico. Pastor Tyler Hicks of Restoration Baptist Church will officiate. Arrangements have been entrusted to Steed-Todd Funeral Home.
Ian was born in Clovis, New Mexico, to Kyle and Laura Massey on April 29, 1993. From the very beginning, Ian was full of life. As a boy, he could often be found jumping on the trampoline while singing his own theme songs, ramping his bike off the porch, or tearing around the farm in his go-kart. Adventure seemed to find Ian-or, more often, Ian went looking for it.
As a teenager, Ian became active in school sports and his church youth group. He made it his goal to attend as many church camps as he could each summer when he wasn't on the road with his dad, learning the line trade. He loved racing dirt bikes, waterskiing, snow skiing, and just about anything else that allowed him to be outdoors, push the limits, and go fast. Ian graduated from Portales High School in 2011 and soon began his career as a lineman.
After a few years of living the bachelor life-building power lines, spending time on the lake, and chasing snow on the ski slopes-Ian found the love of his life, Emily. They were married on June 10, 2022, in Lubbock, Texas, surrounded by family and friends.
From that moment forward, Ian's life was forever changed. In Emily, he found not only his wife, but his soulmate: someone who could keep up with his adventurous spirit while also grounding him and helping shape him into the incredible husband, father, and man we all knew and loved. Ian and Emily were truly a match made in Heaven, and their love for one another was firmly rooted in their love for the Father.
On July 1, 2023, Ian and Emily welcomed their daughter, Cora Paige, into the world, and Ian was immediately smitten. Anyone who spent even a little time around the two of them could see that Cora was the light in her daddy's eyes. He loved her fiercely, with a tenderness, devotion, and protectiveness that were beautiful to witness. Being Cora's dad was one of the greatest joys of Ian's life.
If you met Ian, you met a friend. He knew no strangers and gave freely of himself to the people around him. His life reflected the love of Christ that lived deeply within him. He saw the best in people, possessed a true servant's heart, and lived out the Golden Rule in a way that was genuine and unmistakable. If you needed help, you knew Ian would show up.
He cared for his coworkers and friends as though they were family and found great joy in bringing people together. He loved hosting parties and cookouts, filling his home and his life with good food, laughter, friendship, and the people he loved most. On family vacations, Ian was always the life of the party. He kept the music playing, was the first one ready to wrestle in the pool, and somehow managed to find every T-shirt shop in town. He brought energy, laughter, and fun wherever her went, and some of the best memories with Ian were made simply by being together.
Ian's legacy is one of love, faith, friendship, and family. His love for others flowed from his love for his Savior, Jesus Christ. Ian often shared that he never fully understood the depth of God's love until he became a father himself. Through his relationship with Cora, he came to understand in a new way the fierce, unconditional, and never-ending love a father has for his child-and, through that experience , the immeasurable love God has for each of us as His children.
That was the kind of love Ian reflected to the world: generous, faithful, protective, and without condition. It is the love his family and friends will continue to carry with them as they remember him, honor his life, and strive to love others as fully as he did.
The Massey and Berry families would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the family, friends, coworkers, and members of the community who have surrounded them with such an incredible outpouring of love, prayer, and support.
Ian is preceded in death by his grandfather, Gene Massey; grandfather, James Cathey; and grandmother, Marcia Beck.
Ian is survived by his wife, Emily; daughter, Cora; parents, Kyle and Laura Massey; in-laws, Ken and Wendie Berry; grandmother, Latrelle Massey; sister, Tristan Boerio, and her husband, Brandon; sister, Kaitlan Collins, and her husband, Samson; sister- and brother-in-law, Haley and Kurt Frazier; nephews, Grayson and Easton Boerio and Kolt and Luke Frazier; niece, Indy Frazier; and many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and friends.
