James Carter

February 26, 1969 — October 5, 2017

James Edward Carter
Passed away at his home in Clovis, New Mexico on Thursday, October 5, 2017. James was born on February 26, 1969 to Glenn and Marilyn Carter. James grew up in Clovis, New Mexico.
During his teen years, he was an active participant in the Clovis High Band, The Brew Crew, and he enjoyed listening to heavy metal music. After graduating from high school, James attended ENMU for a brief while. During his time in school, he continued to feel the urge to serve his country. At the age of 21, James enlisted in the United States Air force. James was an honor graduate of Technical School at Moody Air Force Base. In over his three years of service, James volunteered for a tour in Southeast Asia and spent some time in Utah during his service. While in service to our country, James received the Air Force Achievement Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal and got to go for an incentive ride in the F-16 D Jet. James may or may not have tossed his cookies during this ride...but he said it was the ride of a lifetime!
After leaving the military, James became a part business owner of Over Head Door Company of Clovis for approximately 15 years. James left that job to pursue other adventures in life and lived briefly in Oklahoma and Texas. James finally made his way back to Clovis so he could spend time with his children Bradly Glenn Carter and Cessna Carter. Bradly and Cessna brought joy to James' life.
James made sure that Cessna became a member of the Clovis band where she plays trumpet and is 1st chair in her band. This made James very proud because band was important to her and it was important to him. It was a shared interest that they had together.
Bradley and James became best friends when James moved back to Clovis. Many fathers and sons do not get to experience the relationship that they had. Brad and James enjoyed building projects together and tearing projects apart. If they could not build it...they would figure it out...or they would have some left over spare parts. The time they got to spend together was the most important.
James is preceded in death by his dad, Glenn Edward Carter; his mother, Marilyn Carter; sister Melissa Weber; grandparents Jack and Louise Carter; Granddaddy Dalton and Louise May; and aunt JoAnn Bernhardt. James is survived by his two children Bradley and Cessna Carter; step son Kirk Lebow; siblings Will and Debbie Carter Stenstrom; nieces and nephews Deven and Savannah Weber, Sydney and Kylie Stenstrom, and Mason and Jackson (Honey Badger) Carter. James had many wonderful aunts and uncles and cousins. A tremendous thank you goes to Uncle David and Aunt Donna....James wouldn't have been here if not for their support.
