Janet Fontanilla

September 26, 1934 — February 17, 2019

Janet S. Fontanilla, 84, of Clovis, NM entered into the gates of Heaven on February 17, 2019 from Amarillo, TX with her loving family by her side. She was born on September 26, 1934 to the home of Cornelio and Mineko (Maeda) Obrero in Kilauea, Hawaii.

Prior to settling down in the New Mexico/Texas areas, Jan traveled the world, a devoted military wife and mother.

Jan was a Life Member of VFW Post 3280. She enjoyed over 30 years working at local golf courses, starting off at Whispering Winds Golf Course. She then worked side-by-side with her husband at Friona Country Club, Farwell Country Club, and Muleshoe Country Club. Jan loved golf, perfecting not only her own game, but also lovingly side-line coached her son Jeff and grandsons Johnny and Christian. Jan spent a lot of time with her granddaughter Kirra. She loved to watch TV shows with her and never missed any volleyball, basketball games, or any school activities Kirra was involved in. Jan was an avid fan of PGA and LPGA golf events and a diehard fan of the Dallas Cowboys.

Jan is preceded in death by her husband, Crispin Fontanilla; her parents, Cornelio and Mineko Obrero; and brothers, Sonny Obrero and George Obrero.

Jan leaves behind her: sons, Terry Fontanilla of Clovis, NM and Jeff (Kelley) Fontanilla of Texico, NM; daughters, Leslie (Jim) Leiberick of Portales, NM and Marlene Toma of Kauai, HI; grandchildren, Cheryl (Josh Coleman) Lavin, John (Kayleigh) Lavin IV, Kevin Toma, Kristopher Toma, Christian Fontanilla and Kirra Fontanilla; and great-grandchildren, Dorian Tragesser, Benjamin Coleman, Brenden Coleman, John Lavin V and Korbin Lavin.

Private burial will be held at a later date. Pallbearers will be Terry Fontanilla, Jim Leiberick, John Lavin IV, Kevin Toma, Kristopher Toma and Christian Fontanilla.
