Jettie Fern Hankins-Ice, age 88, passed away on October 25, 2025, in Clovis, New Mexico.

She was born on May 14, 1937, in Jewel Ridge, Virginia to Bill and Annie Mae Smith Lowe. She married Joseph Samuel Hankins in Lebanon, Virginia, on February 17, 1955.

Fern was a coal-miners daughter, military spouse, homemaker, and Ombudsman. She worked for Turner's department store, and later for the Cook Companies. She was a member of the West 21st Street Church of Christ, where she taught many Bible classes during the 57 years she attended. She loved to paint, attend her sons' sporting events, cook, study her Bible, and spend time with family and friends.

Fern is survived by her sons: Joe Hankins of Clovis, New Mexico, Rick Hankins (Vera) of Clovis, New Mexico, Mike Hankins (Gena) of Weatherford, Texas; step-daughters: Betts Berry (Bob) of Spokane, Washington and Cathe Ice of Ogden, Utah; 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; and her friend and caregiver Cindy Hernandez.

Fern is preceded in death by her parents: Bill and Annie Mae Smith Lowe, brother; Dale Lowe; her first husband Sam Hankins, second husband Frank Ice; step-daughter Karen Garcia, and granddaughter Brooke Hankins.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 1, at the West 21st Street Church of Christ.
