The Mass of the Resurrection for Johnny Paiz, 82, of Dora, will be celebrated at 2:00 PM, Thursday, February 8, 2018, at St. Helen Catholic Church in Portales, NM. Burial will follow in Mount Zion Cemetery in Dora with Jeremy Mobley, J.D. Mobley, Sixto Paiz, Kody Paiz, Joey Melancon, and Joe Dan Lovato serving as pallbearers. Austin Pullen, Kyle Pullen, and Tylor Pullen will serve as honorary pallbearers. The Rosary will be recited prior to the Mass at 1:00 PM, Thursday, February 8th, also at St. Helen Catholic Church. Viewing will be held at Steed Todd Funeral Home in Clovis, NM, 800 E Manana from 9:00am to 8:00pm on Wednesday, February 7, 2018.
Johnny Paiz was born May 4, 1935 in Encino, NM to the home of Eugenia (Armijo) and Sixto Manzanares Paiz and died February 5, 2018 in Rio Rancho, NM. In 1950, the Paiz family moved to Portales, where he graduated from Portales High School and attended ENMU.
On August 18, 1956 in Santa Rosa, he was married to Josie Chavez. The couple had four children and loved and cared for many other children. Johnny and Josie had successful businesses in Portales, and Johnny proudly served with the Roosevelt County Sheriff's office for many years.
Johnny was a faithful member of St. Helen Catholic Church. He enjoyed helping and watching his children and grandchildren participate in the local and state stock shows and rodeos. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed following high school and college basketball and football teams, as well as the professional teams.
Johnny is survived by daughter, Kathy Paiz, of Dora, two sons, Larry Paiz, of Dora, Pete (Mary) Paiz, of Portales, and one adopted son, Richard Bennink, of Albuquerque; 11 grandchildren, Jeremy Mobley, J.D. Mobley, Kody Paiz, Jewlie Kearns, Silver Melancon, Brandi Lovato, Sixto Paiz, Austin Pullen, Kyle Pullen, Tylor Pullen, and Jaycee Pullen; and 21 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, one son, Johnny Paiz Jr., his parents, and two brothers, Ramon Paiz and Carlos Paiz.
Friends and family are welcome to gather and have lunch following the services at 4:00pm at the Dora Senior Center.
