Jose Romero

May 25, 1938 — February 4, 2022

After a brief battle with cancer, our beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, Jose H. Romero departed this world to venture into the room prepared for him by our heavenly Father on February 4, 2022. Much like he dealt with all experiences in life, Joe managed his illness with incredible strength, grace and faith and had a desire to spend as much time with his loved ones as possible. At the time of his departure, he was surrounded by his loving wife of 48 years, Delores and his endeared youngest daughter, Merranda. Joe, was born on May 25, 1938 to loving parents, Manuel and Evangelina Romero. After spending his youth growing up on the "ranchito" in Anton Chico, NM, he and his family moved to the "big city" of Clovis, NM in 1952. The oldest of six children, Joe, played an integral role in the lives and development of his siblings, inspiring them to be the best versions of themselves that they could be. While he did not have the opportunity for much formal education, he worked as a laborer, often rising into supervisory positions.

Many who knew Joe well will treasure the memory of his beautiful smile, gentle spirit and great kindness and compassion toward others. He prided himself in being a Godly man who cherished the Word of the Lord and though towards the end he remarked "we never have as much time as we think we will" he also treasured the time he was able to spend with others laughing and joking.

He leaves behind his cherished wife, Delores, his daughter Madelyn Amaro, daughter Susie (Albert) Armijo, Gabriel (Toni-Ann) Romero, daughter Corine Ulibarri, daughter Kathy (Raymond) Mondragon, daughter Judy (Greg) Blue, daughter Lisa (Ray) Dant, daughter Allison Zorn, and daughter Merranda (Tony) Marin. He is also survived by his brothers Frank (Stevanna) Romero and Tim Romero, his sisters Dora Romero, Theresa Buckley, and Gloria (Ron) Flick. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

While his earthly family will miss him dearly, we are comforted knowing that he is with loving family members in heaven as he was preceded in death by his father, Manual Romero, his mother, Evangelina (Eva) Romero, his esteemed brother, Emery Romero, infant sister Barbara Romero and his two son-in-laws Pete Amaro and Johnny Ulibarri.

A viewing for Joe is planned for Monday, February 7, 2022 from 6-8pm and will be held at Steed Todd Funeral Home located at 800 E Manana, Clovis, NM. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at 10am at Steed Todd Funeral Home and will be officiated by Jon Forrest with burial to follow at Lawn Haven in Clovis, NM.

The family would also like to express extreme gratitude to the many doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals who participated in Joe's care. Special thanks to Kindred Hospice who helped guide him and his family through the challenging final moments of his life.
