Kent Gast

July 17, 1957 — August 3, 2017

Kent "Pecos" Gast of Farwell TX tipped his old dusty hat and bid his friends and family a final, "see ya soon", on Thursday August 03, 2017. Kent was born to Karl "Smokey" and Dorothy Gast in Clovis New Mexico on July 17, 1957.

Pecos was a man born 150 years too late for this world. His undeniable spirit was far more suited for the settlers and cow folk circa 1800's. His speaking voice had a draw as long as a west Texas sunset, a slow walk that kicked dust up at his heels, and a deliberate contemplation of words that would give his favorite actor John Wayne a run for his money.

Pecos not only loved Westerns of every sort but he lived the western life as authentically as any man could. He raised long horns "the girls" for years. Rather than riding a ranch on horseback he drove a semi-truck with horsepower across the USA. Seeing sites and living experiences that many people never have the opportunity to achieve. He was a man of character and charisma and very few people could ever say they felt like a stranger around Pecos.

Kent leaves many behind but he doesn't leave them without a gift. Through his years Mr. Gast slowly built his legacy- the intangible things, the moments that cannot be bought or materials that can be passed down. His Legacy began with a moment of love learned from his parents, a work ethic that was ingrained and then the courage to build relationships and not fear rejection. His legacy will be seen in his friends who knew the loyalty of an unwavering friend, the companionship of a partner who may not always be easy to get along with but always true and unconditional, and a father who treasured his son and daughter above all else. This legacy will be seen in them for years to come- and in turn, will be passed down again and again to a family that will forever have his love and loyalty branded in their lives.

Kent is survived by his wife Janis Gast of Farwell TX; son Tyrel Gast of Lubbock TX; daughter Kacey Gast of Lubbock TX; father Karl "Smokey" Gast of Farwell TX; sister Jackie Walker of Vega TX. He is preceded in death by his mother Dorothy Gast.
