With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Maria De Jesus Rivas, aged 98, who departed this life peacefully on June 22, 2026, in Clovis, New Mexico. Born on June 15, 1928, in Mexico, Maria was a beloved mother, cherished friend, and an extraordinary seamstress whose love for her craft brought joy to many.

Maria was united in marriage to Jose Rivas in 1949 in Mexico. In the early 1950's, she and her husband moved to the United States under the Braceros program, ultimately earning her citizenship. Maria and her family made their home in Texico, New Mexico, in the late 1950's, where she became an integral part of the community.

Known for her incredible talent as a seamstress, Maria devoted countless hours to creating beautiful quilts and sewing for family and friends. Her artistic skill was matched only by her passion for photography, capturing moments that touched the lives of those around her. She will be remembered not only for her exceptional craftsmanship but also for her warm-hearted spirit and the love she shared with everyone she encountered.

Maria is survived by her children, Johnny (Elva) Rivas of Hobbs, NM, Christina (Isidro) Galvan of Farwell, TX, Dalia (Francisco) Galvan of Farwell, TX, Oralia (Jesse) Garcia of Petersburg, TX, Benito Rivas of Dallas, TX, Jesse (Donna) Rivas of Florida, Marylou (Ricky) Garcia of Houston, TX; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild who will forever carry her memory in their heart.

The Rosary will be held at Steed Todd Funeral Home Chapel on June 26, 2026, at 6:00 PM, with visitation beginning at 4:00 PM. A Mass in her honor will be celebrated at San Jose Mission on June 27, 2026, at 9:00 AM, followed by her interment at Texico Cemetery at 10:00 AM.

As we gather to celebrate the life of this remarkable woman, we invite friends and family to join us in honoring Maria's legacy of love, creativity, and the cherished memories she leaves behind. She will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

Maria was preceded in death by her husband Jose Ignacio Rivas, her parents Venito and Petra Rodriguez, her siblings; Tomas, Angelina, and Carmen; her granddaughter Priscilla, and her daughter-in-law Vickie.
