Mary "Lizzie" Carter

Aberdeen, Maryland

Mary Elizabeth Carter, affectionately known as “Lizzie” of Clovis New Mexico left this world on July 29, 2021 at Plains Regional Medical Center, in Clovis New Mexico, she was 92 years old. She came into this world on April 17, 1929 in Aberdeen Maryland. She was the ninth child and was the last surviving of thirteen children born to the late Allen and Ida Murphy.

Mary lived in Maryland for 80 years until she retired and moved to Clovis New Mexico in 2009.

Before retirement, Mary worked as a demonstrator for New Concepts in marketing to promote new products. Mary was a charter member and instrumental in helping to establish VFW Post #6054 in Aberdeen Maryland. She was a member of St. Matthew United Methodist Church under the leadership of Reverend John D. Snowden. She dearly loved her family and playing bingo.

Mary is survived by one Aunt, Corina Kennard of Bel Air Maryland; three children, James (Frankie) Sconion of Edgewood, Maryland, Arnold Sconion of Greenville, North Carolina and Elaine Williams of Clovis, New Mexico; 16 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, 22 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband Walter Carter, four children Marie Ann Emproso, Charles T. (Butch) Sconion II, Michael E. Sconion and Mary E. Clark; 7 sisters, Mary Alice Banks, Mildred Murphy, Margaret Kenly, Nancy Bowser, Gladys Cole, Laura Anderson and Alverta Dennis; 5 brothers, Elmore Kennard, Eugene Murphy, James Murphy, Melvin Murphy, Raymond Murphy; 3 grandsons, James F. Sconion Jr., James M. Sconion and Scott J. Rice.

Services in Loving care by both Steed Todd Funeral Home of Clovis, New Mexico and Lisa Scott Funeral Home of Havre De Grace, Maryland.

Homegoing Service will be held at Word of Faith International Outreach, at 12:00 P.M., Monday, August 9, 2021, with Dr. Dwayne J. Sconion officiating.

A Graveside service will follow immediately after the church service at St. James Cemetary, Havre De Grace, Maryland.

Pallbearers include; Alan T. Sconion, Brandon Williams, Sakarno M. McKinney, Phillip Williams Jr., S. Javon McKinney, Rico Payne, Derez D. Hunt and Darnell Williams.
