Matthew Salas

Matthew Rodriquez Salas was born on August 30, 1990 to the home of Elizabeth and Keim Lee Salas. He went to be with the Lord on November 28, 2021.

Funeral services for Matthew will be held on Thursday, December 2, 2021 at 10:00 am at St. Helen's Catholic Church in Portales, NM. A rosary will be recited before the funeral mass at 9:00 am. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 from 4-8 pm.

Serving as pallbearers will be Corey Gonzales, Kacey Saiz, Israel Rodriquez, T.J. Salas, Mauro Ojeda, Estevan Escoveda, and Ray Gutierrez. Honorary pallbearers are Veronica R. Gutierrez, JoDerik Rodriquez, Ben Rodriquez, Jose Mendoza, and Kylie Rodriquez.

Matthew was raised in Portales for his entire childhood, and played football in high school as a linebacker.  After he graduated, he became a mechanic by trade for a while. After being a mechanic, Matthew worked for C&S for a couple of years, and eventually went to work for the Hamilton dealerships as a mechanic and salesman. Matthew enjoyed fishing, cooking out, writing stories, playing guitar and playing pool with his friends and family. Matthew married his wife, Cristina Salas a little shy of 6 months ago, on June 3, 2021.

Matthew is preceded in death by his father, Keim Lee Salas.

Matthew is survived by his wife, Cristina Salas; children, Kayden Salas and Kuandale Taylor; siblings, Monica Valadez and TJ Salas; a neice, Kimberlee Valadez; and mother, Elizabeth Salas. Matthew is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
