April 20, 1937 — June 14, 2025

Prentice O. Powers of Clovis, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at the age of 88. Prentice was born the second of five children to parents Hilbert and Syble Powers on April 20, 1937, in Somerville, Indiana.

Prentice enlisted in the Air Force in Butte, Montana, and was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was assigned to the Aircraft Crash & Rescue Section at Travis Air Force Base from 1954-58. In 1980 he married the love of his life, Darlene Tipton, spending 40 years together. He was a loving father to seven children. Prentice was a jack of all trades and master of many. He loved cars and enjoyed tinkering on anything with wheels. During his lifetime, he drove semi-trucks for logging, hauled propane, potash ore, and many other materials. Prentice retired from the United States Department of Fish & Wildlife in 2005, where he spent several years as the heavy equipment operator at the Bitter Lake National Wildlife Refuge in Roswell, NM

Prentice and Darlene were long-time members of the Country Club Road Church of Christ in Roswell. Upon arriving in Clovis, they joined the 16th & Pile Church of Christ. He and Darlene loved camping and spent many days in the NM mountains with family and friends.

Prentice is preceded in death by his wife Marilyn Darlene Powers, his parents Hilbert & Syble Powers, and children Laura Clark and Harold Wayne Powers. He is also preceded in death by his siblings, Robert Powers, Janice Johnston, Darell Powers and two grandchildren, Jason Clark and Nathan Powers. Prentice is survived by his daughters, Denna Powers and Tonya Polomsky and husband Doug; his sons, Rusty Powers and wife Terry, Michael Powers, and Tony Sasser and wife Eileen; his sister, Marcella Lindert and husband Gordon; fourteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and sister and brother's -in-law as well as many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will take place on Friday July 18, 2025 at 10:00 am at the 16th & Pile Church of Christ in Clovis.

Prentice's sense of humor and teasing personality will leave us with wonderful memories that we will continue to cherish.
