Richard Hendershot

Richard Lane Hendershot (73) of Clovis, New Mexico, passed away at home on August 23, 2018. The Rosary will be held at 6:00pm on Friday, August 31st, at the Steed-Todd Funeral home in Clovis. The funeral will be held at 12:45pm on Saturday, September 1st, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Clovis.

Richard was born in Clovis, New Mexico, on February 1, 1945 to Mack and Merline (Myers) Hendershot. He graduated from Melrose High School in 1963. Richard received a bachelor's degree from Eastern New Mexico University in 1967, a master's degree from ENMU in 1976, and a doctorate in education from California Coast University in 2000.

Richard was married to Cheryll (Powell) from 1965-1993. They had two children, Cyndy and Scott. Richard met Nora (Quiñones) in 2000, and they were married.

Richard was a life-long educator. He taught public school, starting in 1967, teaching in Elida, Portales, and Dora. He taught at Melrose High School from 1973 until he retired in 1992. Richard also taught adjunct for ENMU-Clovis, Clovis Community College, Chapman College, and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. He began teaching for Wayland Baptist University at Cannon AFB in 1998 and later became the director of the teacher education program at WBU in Clovis, a position that Richard still held at his death.

Richard enjoyed fishing, archery, and hunting. He was a Sacristan and Eucharistic Minister at Sacred Heart Parish and contributed to his community by participating in the Food Pantry. Richard was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Mack and Merline Hendershot, and his two brothers, Roland and Roger. He is survived by his wife Nora; his children Cyndy (Paul) and Scott (Christopher); his step-daughters Rosa White and Wanda Knight-Griffin; step-grandchildren Gabriel, Quenton, and Joshua White, and Natalie Knight-Griffin; his Aunt Betty Hendershot (John); and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
