May 17, 1933 — May 21, 2026

Ruth Marie Beanblossom Whitney Jones, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2026, at the age of 93, at her daughters home in Clovis, New Mexico.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on July 25, 2026, at Hugunin Family Funeral Home in Phillipsburg, Kansas. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
Ruth was born on May 17, 1933, in Burr Oak, Kansas, to Leo and Marie (Hansen) Beanblossom. She graduated from high school where she served as head cheerleader and was active in 4-H and Home Economics.
Ruth first married Morris Corbett, and together they had two sons, Marvin and Alan. Following their divorce, she moved to Phillipsburg. While singing in the Methodist church choir, she met Charles Whitney. On their first date, Ruth asked Charlie, "why are your eyes so red?" Charlie replied, "yours would be too if you drove a tractor all day." That memorable exchange marked the beginning of a loving partnership. Ruth and Charles were married on September 29, 1957, and shared 36 years together. Charles adopted Marvin and Alan, and their family grew to include three daughters: Shirley, Marcia, and Mary.
Ruth was a woman of many talents and strong faith. She loved crocheting and maintained a lifelong devotion to God and Jesus Christ. She graduated from Brown-Mackie Business School in Salina, Kansas, and worked a variety of roles throughout her life, including chiropractic receptionist and secretary, school bus driver, and cook in the Phillips County Hospital kitchen. Never one to stop learning, Ruth later graduated from Hays Academy of Hair Design and fulfilled her dream of owning and operating Ruth's beauty Parlor in Phillipsburg. Ruth endured significant hardship early in life. When she was five years old, tragedy struck her family when her brother Bobby drowned, her sister Barbra, was struck on a county road, and her mother lost a full term baby. These experiences helped shape the resilience and faith that defined Ruth throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Bobby, her sister Barbra husbands Charles Whitney and Kenneth Jones; her son, Alan Whitney, Her son-in-law, Joel Tinkle; her sister Lolita Silsby; and two great grandchildren, Harley and Audra.
Ruth is survived by her children; Marvin and Jane Whitney of Kensington, Kansas, Becky Whitney of Prairie View, Kansas; Roger and Shirley Van Loenen of Prairie View, Kansas; Marcia Tinkle of Clovis, New Mexico; and Mary and Al Lutz of Sulpher Springs, Texas.
She is also survived by her grandchildren; Heather, Melissa, Justin, Cameron, Christopher, Jessica, Beau, Lee, Shaley, Seth, Crystal, Audrey, and Morgan; 25 great-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild expected soon.
