Virginia Cooper

January 5, 1937 — May 29, 2018

Virginia Ann Cooper, 81, died peacefully at home Tuesday, May 29, 2018. Ann was born in Clovis, New Mexico on January 5, 1937, the daughter of Joe and Maurine Caywood.

Ann will be lovingly remembered by her children, Rick and wife Evelyn Ledbetter and Debbie Ledbetter, grandchildren Spencer and wife Samantha Ledbetter and Alex Ledbetter, and her siblings Nadine White, Larry Caywood, Phyllis Arnold and Joseph Caywood.

Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Cooper, parents and sisters, Dorothy Rolan and Mildred Cason.

Ann moved to Texico in 1973 and owned the Texico Variety Store for many years. Ann met Lewis Cooper, her future husband, while having coffee at Mrs. Young's service station. Lewis and Ann were married in 1978. Ann had a strong community spirit and served her community as a member of Senior Citizens (served as President and a Board Member), Border Town Days (Treasurer), Texico Women's Club and was instrumental in getting a grant to build the Texico Community Center and getting playground equipment for the K.K. Runnels park in Texico.

Ann and Lewis both enjoyed woodworking and crafts. Ann was always working on a project - for her family, friends or community.

A celebration of Ann's life will be on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 2pm MDT at the First Baptist Church of Texico (224 Turner Street, Texico, NM). In lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorial donations be made to the Texico Fire Department or the Texico Senior Citizens.
