Wesley Malcolm McMillan

August 29, 1940 — April 22, 2026

Wesley Malcolm McMillian, 85, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2026, surrounded by loved ones.

He was born on August 29, 1940, in Lubbock, Texas, to Hyram and Gracie McMillan. Wesley spent his early childhood in Shallowater, Texas, where he attended school until the sixth grade. In 1951, he moved with his family to Clovis, New Mexico, a place he would always consider home.

At the age of 23, Wesley proudly enlisted in the United States Army. He completed basic training at Fort Polk, Louisiana, and served as an engineer. During his service, he was stationed in Korea, an experience he remembered fondly. While in the military, he earned his GED, reflecting his determination and commitment to personal growth.

Following his military service, Wesley built a long and hardworking career across several industries, most notably in trucking and industrial work. He worked for Panhandle Steel in Amarillo, Texas, and later at the mineral mill in Moab, Utah. He also spent time working on drilling rigs in Utah and Colorado before beginning a career as a truck driver.

In 1969, Wesley returned to Clovis, where he worked for Clovis Concrete and later for several trucking companies, including Zero Trucking, where he worked for four years. Over the years, he hauled government grain to Indian reservations across New Mexico, Arizona, and Colorado, and later worked for Consolidated Freights in Tucumcari, New Mexico. Wesley eventually moved to Dallas, Texas, where he retired in 1995 at the age of 55 due to health issues.

Never one to sit still for long, he later returned to part-time trucking work. One of his proudest accomplishments was safely driving over three million miles without a single accident-a testament to his skill, dedication, and strong work ethic.

Wesley will be remembered for his resilience, his steady presence, and his deep love for his family. He lived a life marked by hard work, perseverance, and quiet pride in all he did.

He is survived by his daughter, Candie Mundy (Oscar Medrano) of Roswell, New Mexico; his grandson, Raymond Mundy of Houston, Texas; and his granddaughter, Adriana Martinez (Isaac) of Lubbock, Texas. He is also survived by his sisters, Sarah Newcomb of Hindsville, Arkansas; Carmen Phillips of Wichita, Kansas; and Terry McMillan of Spicewood, Texas; as well as his sister-in-law, Nita McMillan of Fritch, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hyram and Gracie McMillan, and two brothers, Boyd and T.O. McMillian.

Visitation will be held from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Wednesday, April 29, 2026 at the Steed Todd Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be at 11 AM on Wednesday, April 29, 2026 in the Steed Todd Funeral Home Chapel. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Mission Garden of Memories Cemetery.
