Joanne "Jody" Lowry

August 6, 1927 — February 23, 2022

Joanne “Jody” Thomas Lowry, a longtime resident of New Mexico, died peacefully at home on February 22, 2022 with her family in attendance.

Jody, as she was known to her friends, was born in Terrell, Texas on August 6, 1927 to Clifton A. Thomas and Joy Prater Thomas. A 1943 graduate of Albuquerque High School, she later moved to Santa Fe with her parents where she found employment as a service representative with the Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Company. She later transferred to the Albuquerque office where she met her future husband, C. Max Lowry. After having her first child, she chose to become a stay-at-home mom, while staying very active in her community. She was a charter member of Netherwood church of Christ, where she taught Bible classes for many years, and a charter member of the Albuquerque Junior Women’s Club, serving as secretary and president. Later, the family moved to Clovis where they were very active in the 16th and Pile church of Christ. An avid genealogist, she researched and found family lineages to Revolutionary War veterans, and applied for and gained membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) joining the Charles Dibrell Chapter in Albuquerque, where she served as chaplain; after moving back to Clovis, she joined El Portal Chapter in Clovis. They always enjoyed traveling, and after Max’s retirement, she enjoyed their unique and unusual travel experiences such as driving the Alcan highway in their motorhome, as passengers aboard a container cargo freighter between California and New Zealand, and touring Germany with a polka band.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, C. Max Lowry, and her parents, Clifton and Joy Thomas.

She leaves behind her children, Linda Baldock and her spouse, Steve Baldock; Sandra Farley and her spouse, Arnold Farley; son Jeff Lowry and his spouse, Cathy Lowry. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Patrick Baldock (Kalynn), J.W. Baldock (Tammy), Deaun Neal (Brian), Alexis Willardson (R-Kay), Wyatt Salmon (Jessica), and Miles Salmon (Sheyanne), 15 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandson.

The service will be held on March 7, 2022 at Steed Todd, followed by internment at Sunset Terrace, Farwell Texas. A viewing will be held at Steed Todd on Sunday, March 6th from 1 p.m.-5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to NM Christian Children’s Home in Portales.
