Mary Lou Lozano

October 6, 1952 — February 27, 2023

Mary Lou Lozano of Clovis, New Mexico died on Monday, February 27, 2023 at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas.  Mary Lou was born in Dahlia, New Mexico to Phoebe A. Baca and Bernardino Baca, the first of four children.  She attended school at Anton Chico, NM, Sudan, TX and Muleshoe, Texas.  She married Margarito L. Lozano in 1970 and supported him in his budding career in the U.S. Army which allowed them to experience new cultures, music, food and meet numerous people that became life long friends. Their married life was cut short when Margarito died in a car accident in Colorado Springs, CO in 1983.

Widowed, Mary Lou moved back to Clovis to be near her family and began to raise her two young boys as a single parent, she immersed herself in attaining a Bachelors of Arts degree from Eastern New Mexico University while holding a full time job. She dedicated her career to the Hartley House in service of others advocating for the legal rights of battered women until retiring in 2011.

Mary Lou will be forever remembered for her love of music, growing up in the sixty’s listening to KOMA A.M. radio in the evening hours and teaching her younger brother and sisters how to do the jerk, the pony and of course the twist.  She made the most decadent and mouthwatering carrot cake you could ever imagine.  Her greatest loves of her life are her children; Margarito “Mick” Lozano (deceased 2012), Christopher A. Lozano of Albuquerque, NM and Denise Y. Sena of Phoenix, AZ.  Her beloved grandson, Julian T. Lozano was the apple of her eye and her most precious gift from God. She was a woman of unwavering faith and was fully prepared and joyful to meet her Holy Father in heaven.

Mary Lou is preceded in death by father, Bernardino Baca, daughter in law, May Lauofo Lozano, companion Bernie Sena, brother, David M. Baca, grandmother, Manuela Baca, beloved aunt and uncle, Josephina & Frank Sanchez, & Aunt Sadie Raybon.  She is survived by her mother, Phoebe A. Baca, sister, Angelina Baca, brother Jimmy M. Baca, special friend, James Morse, all of Clovis, NM and nephews, David M. Sena, Jimmy Lee Baca, Bryan Adam Sena, nieces, Diamond Baca, and Cielo Marina Rodriguez.
