Rena Martinez

May 16, 1933 ~ December 20, 2020 (age 87)


The world has lost a gem, but heaven has surely gained a treasure. Mrs. Rena Martinez of Portales, New Mexico passed from this earth on Sunday, December 20, 2020 in Amarillo, Texas.

            Rena was born on May 16, 1933 in Lubbock, Texas to excited parents; Alcario Sotelo and Josephine Anaya.

            Rena married Jim Martinez on October 17,1949 in Clovis, NM.

Together Rena and Jimmy built a home and life having seven beautiful children.

Rena began working at Barnes Cleaners before she purchased it and began running it and opening a bridal store as well. Rena loved to embroider, sew, and create in general. Rena’s family recalls how much she loved nature and being outside as well as her “feisty can-do” attitude toward life. The thing in life that provided her the greatest pleasure was being a superb grandma to her great grandchildren.

Rena was a dedicated member of Our lady of Guadalupe in Clovis, NM for many years.

Mrs. Martinez is loved and admired even in death and will be truly missed by those that knew her.

Rena is preceded in death by loving husband; Jim Martinez, sons; Jimmy, Johnny and Frank Martinez, and daughters; Judy Zaagsma, and Patsey DeLosSantos. She is also preceded by son-in-law; Mike Bargas.

Rena Martinez is survived by: darling sister; Celestina Garcia, son; James (JoAnn) Martinez of Amarillo, TX and daughter; Joann Bargas of Portales, NM. She is also survived by her beloved fur baby; Baby, 14 wonderful grandkids, and 32 great grandkids.

Serving as Pallbearers are; Christopher Bargas, Dominic Martinez, Jaiden Tinajero, and Carlos Delgado.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions there will be a private graveside service for Mrs. Rena Martinez in Clovis, NM on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 with Deacon Daniel Chavez officiating.
