d. September 26, 2021

Texico

Bob worked for the Santa Fe railroad in different departments before he became a brakeman/conductor. After 30+ years, the railroad stole his hearing. Because he read his Bible so much, satan eventually stole most of his eyesight. Never through all his trials, did he ever lose his Hope, or his Faith in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Mother spent many nights for several months sitting with him. He was continually praying for others, even in his sleep. There was a song we used to sing called “There’s a Light Coming Forth.” The Saints who fellowshipped with us at the “Building” (Christian Fellowship Center) on Main Street in the 70’s plus, will remember the tune. These are the Lyrics:

There’s a light coming forth, I can see it on the horizon, tis the army of God, preparing for war, coming conquering over the army of satan, nothing can stand before the army of God. 2nd Corinthians 5-8 says to be absent from the body, is to be in the presence of God. On Sunday September 26, 2021, in the twinkling of the eye, Bob went into the presence of the Lord. All Bob wanted to know was “Well done thou good and faithful servant.” (Matt. 25-23)

Robert Charles Gentry was born on July 23, 1938 in Hereford, Texas to the home of Robert K. Gentry and Anita (Jowell) Gentry. He was an only child. His mother taught him the “Lord’s Prayer” when he was only 2 years old.

A number of accomplishments and accolades could be mentioned, however these were not important to him. Many called him preacher and pastor, but all he wanted to be called was “Brother Bob”, who was a missionary conductor on the “Holy Faith” (Santa Fe) railroad and worked between Clovis and Bethlehem (Belen). He always said, “Once they were on the caboose with him, there was no place to jump off.” Many received the Lord while working with Bob.

Survivors include his wife Bette (Blair) Gentry of 64 years; 2 daughters, Sarah Catherine (Jerry) Johnson of Texico, NM, Jennifer Robin (John) Stephens of Clovis, NM; one grandson, Joshua (Josh) Johnson of Texico, NM; three granddaughters, Sarah Johnson Gomez of Seminole, TX; Taylor Stephens and Jaden Stephens of Lubbock TX; 5 great grandchildren of Seminole, TX; and several friends and cousins.

He left behind many friends, Andy Brooks, Henry (Coley) Clay, Roger Bannister, Jay Brandenburg, and Alan Hamilton. We really want to thank you for your many prayers.
