Troy Prather

Troy Lee Prather, 96, died on Sunday, September 1, in Lubbock, Texas.

Troy was born July 5, 1923, to Jack and Bonnie Prather in Checotah, OK. He grew up in New Mexico and Texas where his parents farmed and ranched. He served in the army during WWII in Germany and France as an artillery gunner, receiving 2 bronze stars and many other metals. After the war he moved to Globe, Arizona where he met Thelma Sniffen, the love of his life, and married her on June 26, 1948. They moved to Clovis, NM where he farmed and ranched as well as retiring from Montgomery Ward where he was the Auto Center manager. He was a member of Central Baptist Church in Clovis.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Thelma, his son, Everett, infant son Troy David, his parents, as well as 2 brothers and 2 sisters.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Belinda (Kyle) Sunderman of Lubbock, TX; daughter-in-law, Beverly Major Yates of Portales, NM; 8 grandchildren Kyla (Brian) Mikusek of Hurst, TX, Kara (Blaine) Bearden of Tularosa, NM, Mark Sunderman of Lubbock, Cody (Myndi) Prather of Amarillo, TX; Klisty (Duffy Moon) McNaughton of Clovis, Lori (Andrew) Fierro of Albuquerque, NM, Kelly Prather of Texaco, Leah Sunderman of Lubbock;10 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Herman Tex (Mary) Prather of Henrietta, TX, and Robert Prather of Ft. Sumner, NM; and a multitude of nieces and nephews.

A public viewing will be held from 1:30 pm to 2:00 pm, Thursday, September 5th at Steed-Todd Funeral Home, followed immediately by a funeral service. Burial will follow at Lawn Haven Cemetery. Belinda and Kyle would like to thank Hospice of Lubbock and Serendipity for the loving care that Troy recieved.
