Vern Harpold

February 17, 1939 — February 27, 2022

Vern Rodney Harpold entered his heavenly home Sunday, February 27, 2022.  Vern was born February 17, 1939 in Clovis to Elmer June Harpold and Verna Pearl (Brown) Harpold.  Vern was raised on the family homestead south of Clovis where he attended grade school at Center School.  In 1950 the family moved to Clovis where he attended Marshall Jr. High School and then graduated from Clovis High School in 1956.  After high school Vern enlisted in the US Army Reserves, spending several years with the New Mexico National Guard.

Vern had a natural love for all things mechanical and speed.  Over the years he built many drag racing cars for himself and others, winning many races across the southwest.  In 1957 Vern went to work for the Atchison, Topeka, & Santa Fe Railroad as a carman.  Never content with an idol moment, in 1960 he also started his own business, Harpold Garage & Welding, working at both until he retired from the railroad in 1998.  In retirement Vern continued to work on many welding, and car restoration projects.

In 1966, Vern met and married Jeannie House.  Together they had three sons, Wayne 1967, William 1971, and Waylon 1974.  In 1993 Vern married Brenda Davenport, adding a daughter, Jennifer to the family.

Vern is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Verna Harpold, brother Van Harpold, and Brother In Law Bob McAfoos.  He is survived by his wife Brenda, daughter Jennifer, of Clovis, sons Wayne (Laura) Harpold of Kansas City, MO, William (Lorna) of Clovis, NM, Waylon (LaShona) of Clovis, NM, sisters Beverly (Loren) McAfoos-Fulfurd of Wabash, IN, Aloha Sterling of Wichita, KS, grandchildren Trystan, Seth, Caxton, Breyer, Anthony, Alexander, Abel, Angelina, great-grandchildren, Adelynn, Aiden, Rylie, and Ryder.

Pallbearers will be Trystan Harpold, Seth Harpold, Caxton Harpold, Breyer Harpold, Anthony Arington, Alexander Arington, Scott Riggins, Jerrod Strange.  Honorary Pallbearers are Aiden Harpold, Dwaine Beckwith, Carol Mcdaniel, Rocky Marks, Brett Lockmiller, and all the members of the Clovis Desert Cruzers Car Club.
